The host team secured a solitary bronze on Friday in the 19th
Asian Intercity Tenpin Bowling Championship, with Daegu of South
Korea and Hong Kong splitting gold in the men's and women's team
events.
Jeong Jin Ho, Park Dae Soon, Kim Young Pyo and Lee Tae Ju
scored a total of 5,175 pins to win for Daegu, while Hong Kong
men's team of Wu Siu Hong, Wicky Yeung, Hui Chi Ho and Daniel Yiu
tallied 4,905 for second place on the third day of competition
pitting teams from 17 cities in the region.
Paranaque of the Philippines, represented by Purvis Granger,
Johnson Cheng, Sandi Cotoco and CJ Suarez, finished third with
4,830.
In the women's team event, Hong Kong's Joey Yip, Kylie Lui,
Janet Lam and Vanessa Fung won with 4,651, followed by
Paranaque's Cecilia Yap, Lucy Cheng, Liza Clutario and Yap Seok
Kim with 4,617.
After relinquishing an early lead, Putty Armein, Raniia A
Nugroho, A. Ayu and Shalima Zalsha salvaged pride for Jakarta by
taking bronze with 4,452.
"My women's team played very well. They play better when they
are under pressure," Hong Kong national head coach Pedro Merani
said.
The Hong Kong women trailed Jakarta at the end of game four,
but they played more consistently in the final two games to
triumph.
On Thursday at Jaya Ancol Bowling Center in North Jakarta, the
host city took gold in the men's doubles thanks to Ryan Lalisang
and Yuyu Lie.
Ryan blazed the lanes for an impressive 1,383 with lines of
235, 220, 219, 268, 228 and 213.
His partner, last week's Indonesia Open third runner-up,
posted 1,288 for a winning total of 2,671.
"We were doing great after the third game but not so good in
the fourth and fifth games because the lanes were drying very
fast," Yuyu said.
Hong Kong's Wicky Yeung and ABF Tour Grand Slam champion Wu
Siu Hong settled for silver with a total of 2592.
Yeung's 1,268 combined with Wu's impressive 1,324, while
Daegu's Jeong and Lee were third with 2,571.
In the women's doubles, Paranague's duo of Clutario and
Cecilia Yap came out on top, with Jakarta settling for silver and
Hong Kong the bronze.
Clutario's six-game total of 1,333 and Yap's 1,174 were enough
to beat Putty, who posted 1,248, and her young partner Shalima
with 1,104. The latter edged frontrunners Lam and Fung by eight
pins.
