Daan Mogot Road in West Jakarta Sees 5-Kilometre Traffic Jam Triggered by Plastic Warehouse Fire
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Daan Mogot Raya Road in West Jakarta is severely congested on Tuesday (19 May 2026) as a result of a plastic warehouse fire in Kapuk, Cengkareng.
The traffic jam was observed extending up to 5 kilometres, particularly along Daan Mogot Road from Halte Jembatan Baru to Jalan Pangeran Tubagus Angke.
This occurred due to closure of access on Jalan Peternakan Raya because firefighting crews are still cooling down the incident site.
‘That’s right. The traffic jam is because Jalan Peternakan Raya toward Kapuk, Kampung Gusti, and Jembatan Genit cannot be traversed yet. Because the cooling process is still ongoing,’ Sudarmo said when contacted by Kompas.com via telephone on Tuesday.
Sudarmo explained that the road closure cuts off the route normally used by goods vehicles.
As a result, all vehicle volumes diverted and queued on Daan Mogot Road, in both directions towards Grogol and Kalideres.
‘So what usually is the route for logistics vehicles from the north turns via Kampung Gusti, but the route to Jembatan Genit is blocked, and it ends up on Daan Mogot altogether,’ he said.
the influx of logistics vehicles and private cars during the morning peak hours has caused long queues that stretch to the present.
‘The impact is that the queue extends from Tubagus Angke to Cengkareng. Those from Kalijodo are the same, already to the front of Yayasan Jabaragung,’ Sudarmo said.
‘There have been efforts to ease the traffic. Officers from the Cengkareng Sector Police’s Traffic Unit and the Grogol Petamburan Sector Police have been deployed to manage the traffic flow,’ he added.
Sudarmo urged people intending to travel on Daan Mogot Road to seek alternative routes to avoid getting stuck in the congestion.
The firefighting efforts for the plastic warehouse on Jalan Peternakan Raya, Gang Semut, Kapuk, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, had not yet been completed by Tuesday afternoon at 12:15 local time.
A Kompas.com observer at the scene reported that more than 20 hours after the fire began on Monday (18 May 2026) at 14:30 local time, thick black smoke was still billowing high from the rubble of the building.
