Daan Mogot Mall resumes operation
JAKARTA: Daan Mogot Mall, which was destroyed during the 1998 May riots following the killing of four Trisakti University students, reopened for business on Friday.
"The mall was opened after all the renovation work to repair the damage caused by the riots was completely finished," said Anton Sulaeman, president director of PT Fajar Surya Perkasa, which manages the mall.
Anton said renovation of the mall, located at Jl. Daan Mogot Km. 16, West Jakarta, totaled Rp 40 billion (US$4.3 million).
The financial losses suffered by the management and store owners during the riots reached over Rp 100 billion, Anton said.
He said 60 percent of the available space in the mall was occupied.
Other malls, which were also destroyed four years ago, have reopened their doors to the public, including Slipi Jaya Plaza and Glodok Plaza in West Jakarta, Citra Plaza and Jatinegara Plaza in East Jakarta and Supermal Karawaci in Tangerang. -- JP
