Jakarta (ANTARA) - The D-8 Halal Expo Indonesia (D-8 HEI) officially closed on 12 July 2026, having recorded transaction commitments worth approximately US$13.4 million, or around Rp242.6 billion, reinforcing Indonesia’s position as a driver of the global halal economy.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Sunday evening that the inaugural exhibition, held from 8 to 12 July, featured 80 booths occupied by 80 companies from D-8 member countries and several other nations, including Palestine and Sri Lanka.

The event also attracted buyers from countries outside the D-8, among them the United States, Russia, and Singapore.

During the Expo, the D-8 HEI was visited by more than 5,000 people from both within Indonesia and abroad. The exhibition also facilitated 29 business matching sessions bringing together exporters, producers, and prospective trading partners.

Through these business meetings, Indonesian enterprises signed a number of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and letters of intent (LoIs) with companies from D-8 member countries.

The total value of these agreements is projected to reach approximately US$13.4 million, or around Rp242.6 billion, covering trade in spices and halal industrial raw materials.

The success of the inaugural D-8 HEI strengthens Indonesia’s position as one of the world’s hubs driving the halal economy, which is also a priority of Indonesia’s D-8 chairmanship.

The exhibition is expected to enhance halal value chains regionally and globally, increase the trade value of halal products and raw materials to D-8 member countries and other partner nations, and strengthen trade cooperation among D-8 members.

Beyond generating business commitments, the D-8 HEI also served as a platform for expanding networks among halal economy players, building business capacity, sharing experience and technology, and connecting innovators with investors.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the investment interests and cooperation agreements achieved during the D-8 HEI will be followed up to produce long-term and sustainable benefits.

The D-8 HEI formed part of the series of events under Indonesia’s D-8 chairmanship for the 2026–2027 period, taking place from 8 to 12 July 2026 at the Indoor Tennis Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta.

Under the theme “Strengthening D-8 Halal Economy Through International Collaboration”, the exhibition was designed as a key platform for businesses, industries, investors, and policymakers to strengthen the halal supply chain within the D-8 while expanding access to global markets.
