Czech Republic Uses Sports Tourism as Gateway for Investment in Bali

The Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic for Bali is using sports tourism in the form of a golf tournament organised by the Czech, Slovak, and Indonesia Business Association as a gateway for investment from the country’s entrepreneurs in Indonesia, particularly Bali. “The Czech, Slovak, and Indonesia Business Association is holding this with the aim of opening up investment opportunities so that it is not solely hotel and villa investment, but also technology or transportation, because the country excels in those areas. This golf tournament is the medium for building that network,” said the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic for Bali, Ida Bagus Gede Sidharta Putra. Bagus Sidharta in Denpasar on Friday noted that golf tournaments are the right entry point, as tourists or businesspeople from the Czech Republic who come to Bali enjoy sports tourism and the existing culture. Furthermore, golf is a sport greatly favoured by the upper class, making it a gateway for major entrepreneurs to enter. Ahead of the golf tournament that will take place on Saturday, 6 June 2026, at New Kuta Golf, Bagus Sidharta, who is also the chairman of PHRI Denpasar, first welcomed the entrepreneurs at Griya Menuh Santrian. During the welcome dinner, the Czech Honorary Consulate for Bali wanted to provide an experience of Bali through distinctive cuisine and culture. “Rather than holding it in a hotel, it is better in a Griya (house) like this, sharing about our culture, showing Balinese food, in a Balinese house, with dance performances and fashion as well, so we promote sports tourism alongside fitness with culture,” he said. The Czech Honorary Consulate for Bali hopes this step helps to bring positive investment to Bali, especially since its mapping shows that Czech entrepreneurs are very fond of Bali, with an average of 25,000 to 30,000 citizens visiting the Island of the Gods each year. “Some of them come for holidays and some for business; they like Balinese culture and lifestyle, so their interest in investing is very strong. Even though the population is only 10 million, their economic performance is extraordinary. They are exporters of trains and medical devices,” said Bagus Sidharta.
