Czech embassy holds 'Czech Week' in RI

JAKARTA: Thanks to the Embassy of Czechoslovakia, starting on Monday (today) Jakartans will be able to say Dobrou Chut (Czech for bon appetit) before they tuck into a mouth-watering selection of the country's cuisine at the Gran Melia Hotel.

The one-week food expo at the hotel is part of "Czech Week" run by the Embassy, which starts on Monday.

"Czech Week .... will not only introduce Czech cuisine from our famous chefs Jiri Kral, Tomas Krofta, Dusan Svoboda and Milan Juza to Indonesians, but also our classical music, our Bohemian crystals and Skoda cars. The whole program is being organized as part of Europe Month 2005," Czech Ambassador Jaroslav Vesely, whose country was one of nine to join the European Union (EU) last year, told The Jakarta Post on Saturday.

Every year, Europeans across the globe celebrate Europe Day on May 9. However, with so many events to choose from, including seminars, food festivals, film screenings, musical performances, quiz shows and art exhibitions, the EU and its executive arm, the European Commission, have now dubbed the whole of May "Europe Month". -- JP
