Cyprus reviews cooperation with the UK after drone attack
Moscow (ANTARA) - Cyprus will undertake a ‘serious assessment’ of its cooperation with the United Kingdom after a drone attack on the island’s air base, said Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos. “Clearly, a serious assessment is needed of what happened at that critical moment, especially regarding the ongoing situation and the level of cooperation that exists,” Kombos told the Greek broadcaster ERT. The Cypriot government has expressed its dissatisfaction to the British authorities regarding the handling of the matter. “We conveyed to the British both our dissatisfaction and disappointment with how this situation was handled, which culminated in an attack on the British base,” Kombos said. On 28 February, the United States and Israel launched attacks on several targets in Iran, including in the capital Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran subsequently retaliated by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East. The UK Ministry of Defence confirmed that a drone hit the Akrotiri base in Cyprus on 1 March, causing limited damage. The ministry stated that the drone was not launched from Iran.
