Cycling tour set for Jakarta streets

JAKARTA: Morning strollers will be able to catch a glimpse of the action when cyclists compete in the Dji Sam Soe Tour de' Jakarta on Sunday.

The race, beginning at 7 a.m. in Senayan, Central Jakarta, will cover major streets such as Jl. Jend Sudirman to the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, as well as Jl. Gatot Soebroto to Halim Perdanakusumah air base in East Jakarta.

The first cyclists -- competing in the men's and women's categories, as well as a junior race -- are expected to cross the finish line at Bung Karno Stadium in Senayan at about 10 a.m.

Cigarette maker Wismilak also announced on Friday its Tour DeJabar, taking in the cities of Pangandaran, Ciamis and Bandung, would be held from April 15-20. It will offer a total purse of Rp 121,860,000 to 10 local teams of riders and six foreign, including the national riders of Singapore and Malaysia. -- JP
