Cyberattack Disrupts Operations at Four Iranian Banks
A limited cyberattack caused disruptions to the operations of four banks in the country, namely Bank Melli Iran, Bank Tejarat, Bank Saderat Iran, and Bank Tosee Saderat. In a statement cited by Iran’s state news agency IRNA on Sunday, the Iranian Banking Coordination Council said technical teams immediately implemented necessary preventive and protective measures after detecting signs of unusual disturbances. “Technical teams immediately implemented the necessary preventive and protective measures to protect customer data and the country’s banking infrastructure after identifying unusual signs,” the council’s statement said. According to the council, the results of the technical investigation conducted showed that the disruption was caused by a limited cyberattack targeting the shared communications infrastructure used by the four banks. “A detailed technical investigation showed that this disruption was caused by a limited cyberattack against the shared communications infrastructure belonging to the four banks. Fortunately, there was no unauthorised access to customer information and no data was deleted,” the statement said. The Iranian Banking Coordination Council stressed that all infrastructure systems are now under the control of technical experts. In addition, system recovery operations and security reinforcement are still ongoing to ensure services return to normal and remain secure.
