Digital fraud tactics typically surge alongside heightened online transaction activity, especially for mudik and holiday needs. The Cyber Crime Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya has ramped up cyber patrols to prevent online scams during this extended holiday period. The Director of Cyber Crime at Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Roberto Pasaribu, stated that perpetrators exploit the Eid moment to lure victims through various methods. “The perpetrators’ tactics involve offering cheap air, land, and sea transport tickets, affordable accommodation, cheap vehicle rentals, and so on via social media accounts or messaging apps,” said Roberto when contacted by Kompas.com on Wednesday (18/3/2026). List of Cyber Crimes to Watch Out For: Here are several cyber crime tactics that the public should be aware of ahead of Eid: 1. Fake Cheap Ticket Offers: Perpetrators offer aeroplane, train, or ship tickets at prices far below market rates to attract victims. 2. Fictitious Accommodation and Hotel Promotions: Ads for cheap stays are often made as appealing as possible, but turn out to be untrue or unusable. 3. Bogus Vehicle Rentals: This tactic targets mudik travellers needing affordable vehicles, but ends in fraud. 4. Links or Apps Containing Malware: Victims are directed to click links or download apps that actually contain malware to take over accounts.
