The Regional Office of Customs for Southern Sulawesi, in collaboration with Makassar Customs and the South Sulawesi Police, has uncovered an international narcotics smuggling case at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport. Officers seized approximately one kilogram of methamphetamine, also known as shabu. The seizure resulted from an intelligence analysis of passengers on an international flight from Kuala Lumpur to Makassar. The drugs were found hidden using a body strapping method. A controlled delivery operation was subsequently conducted, leading to the arrest of two other suspects believed to be part of the same network. The joint operation is estimated to have saved around 5,000 lives and prevented potential state expenditure of Rp 7.9 billion on rehabilitation costs.
