Customs Supports Border Economic Development at Temajuk Cross-Border Post Reactivation
The Head of the West Kalimantan Regional Customs Office, accompanied by the Head of the Sintete Customs Office, attended the soft launch of the reactivation of the Temajuk Cross-Border Post on Friday (21/8/2026). The event was held at the Temajuk Cross-Border Post grounds, which are directly connected to the Telok Melano Border Control Post in Sarawak, Malaysia.
The reactivation of this cross-border route is intended to open access for the movement of goods and people, as well as to boost local economic potential and tourism for communities in the Indonesia–Malaysia border area. The reopening follows the Indonesia–Malaysia Border Crossing Agreement of 8 June 2023 and the outcomes of the 19th Session of the Joint Secretariat of the Malaysia–Indonesia Social Economic Working Group.
The Secretary of Indonesia’s National Border Management Agency, Makhruzi Rahman, said the launch answers the aspirations and hopes of border communities regarding the lawful and sovereign reopening of the Temajuk–Telok Melano access.
“The launching and activation of the cross-border post we are holding today is the answer to the public’s hopes, dreams and questions about when the Temajuk and Telok Melano border would be reopened. Opening a national gate is part of respecting each country’s sovereignty,” Makhruzi said.
The Head of the Sintete Customs Office, Achmad Hidayat, said Customs’ presence at the launch is in line with its firm commitment to carrying out its functions as a community protector and trade facilitator on the front line of the Republic of Indonesia.
“Through this launch, we are ready to provide optimal customs services and supervision at the Temajuk Cross-Border Post,” he said.
This strategic step, resulting from synergy with the National Border Management Agency, Immigration, Quarantine, the military and police, and local government, is expected to encourage legal and orderly local economic growth and open wider space for interaction between the people of both countries, while also serving as a strong foundation towards preparations for a State Border Crossing Post in 2027.
