The Regional Office of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) for Western Sumatra (Sumbagbar) has confiscated 36.70 million illegal cigarettes during the first semester of 2026. The seizure resulted from 325 enforcement actions conducted between January and June 2026.

Head of the DJBC Sumbagbar Regional Office, Bier Budy Kismulyanto, stated that in addition to the tens of millions of illegal cigarettes, officers also secured 6,272 litres of illicit beverages containing ethyl alcohol (MMEA) from various enforcement operations.

“From all these enforcement actions, the estimated value of the seized goods reached Rp 56.72 billion, with potential state losses prevented amounting to Rp 36.61 billion,” Bier said on Friday (17/7/2026).

Bier explained that during the first half of 2026, his office issued 325 certificates of enforcement (SBP) in the excise sector. He noted that this achievement is part of the Customs and Excise agency’s efforts to maintain a balance between service, supervision, and optimising state revenue.

He stressed that the supervision of illegal excisable goods aims not only to curb the circulation of goods without excise stamps but also to create fair business competition and protect compliant business operators. “We will continue to maintain this momentum by improving user compliance and conducting professional and integrity-driven supervision,” he said.

Meanwhile, the DJBC Sumbagbar Regional Office also recorded customs and excise revenue realisation of Rp 1.54 trillion for the first semester of 2026, reaching 65.68 percent of this year’s target of Rp 2.35 trillion. This figure represents a 15.06 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The revenue comprised Rp 124.93 billion from import duties, Rp 1.41 trillion from export duties, and Rp 5.33 billion from excise.

Customs and Excise Sumbagbar confirmed it will continue to strengthen supervision, law enforcement, and user compliance to secure state revenue while protecting the public from the circulation of illegal goods.
