Customs Seize Illegal Harley-Davidson CKD Imports, Here's What They Look Like

Customs officials at Tanjung Priok port have successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle five used, completely knocked down (CKD) Harley-Davidson motorcycles and 20 used frames from China. The illegal imports were detected after officers identified anomalies in the container scanner images of two containers from China, which had been misdeclared in customs documents. A subsequent physical inspection confirmed the presence of the disassembled motorcycles and frames. The importation of these used vehicles violates Article 2 of the Minister of Trade Regulation Number 24 of 2025 concerning Import Policies and Regulations for Non-New Goods and Non-Hazardous and Toxic Waste, which strictly prohibits the import of used motor vehicles into Indonesia. The head of the Tanjung Priok Customs Office, Adhang Noegroho Adhi, stated that the use of modern scanning technology combined with sharp intelligence analysis and selective physical examination is key to preventing smuggling. He affirmed that this enforcement action demonstrates the commitment to protecting the public and the sustainability of domestic industry from illegal imports. The total potential state loss is still being calculated, pending a decision on whether the seized goods will be destroyed or sold.
