Jakarta – The name of Ahmad Dedi, a mid-level expert functional examiner at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, is currently in the spotlight after he was reported to have avoided media interviews regarding allegations of bribery in the importation of goods at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) of the Ministry of Finance.

The issue has even sparked wild speculation linking Ahmad Dedi to the case currently being handled by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

In response, Ahmad Dedi’s legal representative, T S Hamonangan Daulay, provided clarification. He stressed that his client has never fled or avoided legal processes.

“This needs to be straightened out, as there has been negative framing that ultimately harms our client. As if he is afraid because he is involved in the case,” said Hamonangan Daulay to reporters on Saturday, 9 May 2026.

According to him, Ahmad Dedi’s decision not to comment to the media at that time was a form of respect for the ongoing legal process.

“For Ahmad Dedi, commenting to the media at that time would actually be counterproductive to the investigation of the case at the KPK. Let us respect the ongoing legal process,” he said.

He also emphasised that Ahmad Dedi’s current status is still that of a witness. His presence at the examination is said to be a cooperative effort to assist the KPK’s investigation.

“That’s why he attended and provided testimony based on what he knows. Once again, he is a witness and not a suspect,” he stated.

Furthermore, the legal team hopes that the media will uphold the principle of presumption of innocence and not be easily swayed by opinions deemed to corner their client.

“I hope that media colleagues do not easily fall for framing by certain parties. This case must be monitored together, so that the investigation runs smoothly and thoroughly,” he added.

It was previously reported that the KPK scheduled examinations of several witnesses in the alleged corruption case related to bribery in the importation of goods at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) of the Ministry of Finance.

One of those examined was Ahmad Dedi, a civil servant at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise.

After undergoing the examination, Ahmad Dedi, wearing a short-sleeved white shirt and black trousers, appeared to run hurriedly out of the KPK’s Merah Putih Building.
