Customs Officer Dies While Inspecting Vessel in Siak Waters

A Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) officer, Aditya Waskita Jauhari, died while carrying out export cargo supervision duties in the waters of Tanjung Buton, Siak Regency, Riau, on Monday (7/7/2026). According to an official press release, the incident occurred when the Pekanbaru Customs officer and a joint team were conducting a physical inspection of the cargo (final draft) of the MV Himalaya V.195. This inspection was a standard customs supervision procedure for a Palm Kernel Shell in Bulk export commodity filed by the exporter. During the service and final measurement process, the pompong boat carrying the team encountered an incident in strong currents, causing the vessel to capsize and sink. A joint SAR team immediately launched a rescue and search operation at the scene. Most passengers were evacuated safely, but Aditya Waskita Jauhari was found deceased. Head of the Customs Public Relations and Extension Sub-directorate, Budi Prasetiyo, expressed deep sorrow and condolences over the officer’s passing. ‘We have lost one of the nation’s best sons who fell while carrying out the state’s mandate. May all his good deeds and dedication be accepted by Allah SWT, and may the bereaved family be granted strength, fortitude, and sincerity,’ Budi stated. Budi affirmed that Customs is fully committed to providing the best support for the deceased’s family and is coordinating closely with relevant parties in handling the aftermath of this incident. The institution also stressed the importance of evaluating workplace safety standards so that personnel safety is always the top priority. Among colleagues, Aditya was known as a figure of integrity, responsibility, and dedication. His sacrifice serves as a real portrait of the risks and high commitment of Customs officers who stand on the front lines to safeguard Indonesia’s economic sovereignty and trade flows.
