Customs Officer Dies While Inspecting Vessel in Siak Waters
An officer from the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC), Aditya Waskita Jauhari, passed away while performing duties to supervise the loading of export goods in the waters of Tanjung Buton, Siak Regency, Riau, on Monday (7/7/2026).
According to a press release received by CNBC Indonesia, the incident occurred while the Pekanbaru Customs officer and a joint team were conducting a physical inspection of the cargo (final draft) of the MV Himala V.195. This inspection was part of the official customs supervision procedure for the export commodity of Palm Kernel Shell in Bulk submitted by an exporter.
During the service and final measurement process in the waters, the small boat used by the team encountered an incident amidst strong currents, causing the vessel to capsize and sink.
A joint SAR team immediately conducted rescue and search operations at the scene. While most passengers were successfully evacuated safely, Aditya Waskita Jauhari was found deceased.
The Head of the Sub-directorate of Public Relations and Community Service at Customs, Budi Prasetiyo, expressed profound condolences for the loss. “We have lost one of the nation’s finest sons who fell while carrying out the state’s mandate. May all the deceased’s good deeds and dedication be accepted by Allah SWT, and may the bereaved family be granted strength, fortitude, and sincerity,” said Budi.
Budi emphasised that Customs is fully committed to providing the best assistance to the deceased’s family and is coordinating closely with relevant parties regarding post-incident handling. The institution also stressed the importance of evaluating field safety standards to ensure that officer security remains the top priority.
Among his colleagues, Aditya was known as an individual of integrity, responsibility, and great dedication. His sacrifice serves as a real portrait of the risks and high commitment of Customs officers who stand on the front lines to safeguard Indonesia’s economic sovereignty and the smooth flow of trade.
