A customs officer, Aditya Waskita Jauhari, died while on duty conducting supervision of export cargo loading in the waters of Tanjung Buton, Siak Regency, Riau, in the early hours of Monday (7/7). The deceased was an officer with the Pekanbaru Customs and Excise Office.
The incident occurred while Aditya and a joint team were carrying out a physical inspection of the cargo (final draft) of MV, Himala V.195. This inspection is an official customs supervision procedure for the export commodity Palm Kernel Shell in Bulk submitted by the exporter.
During the service and final measurement process in the water area, the pompong boat carrying the team encountered an incident amid strong currents, causing the vessel to capsize and sink.
A joint SAR team immediately conducted a rescue and search operation at the scene. Most of the passengers were successfully evacuated safely, but Aditya Waskita Jauhari was found deceased.
Head of the Customs and Excise Public Relations and Outreach Sub-directorate, Budi Prasetiyo, expressed deep sorrow and condolences over the officer’s passing. “We have lost one of the nation’s best sons who fell while carrying out the state’s mandate. May all his good deeds and dedication be accepted by Allah SWT, and may the family left behind be granted strength, fortitude, and sincerity,” Budi stated.
Budi affirmed that Customs and Excise is fully committed to providing the best support for the deceased’s family and is coordinating closely with relevant parties in handling the aftermath of this incident. The institution also stressed the importance of evaluating field work safety standards so that officer security is always the top priority.
In the eyes of his colleagues, Aditya was known as a figure of integrity, responsibility, and dedication. His sacrifice serves as a real portrait of the risks and high commitment of customs officers who stand on the front lines to safeguard economic sovereignty and the smooth flow of Indonesian trade.
