The Directorate General of Customs and Excise will start tightening the registration of exporters in the country in 2010.

“The stricter registration is important to boost income and to implement the World Exporters Organization regulations which Indonesia, as a member, has to uphold,” Information and Customs Director Heri Kristiono told reporters on Tuesday.

“We do not want them [exporters] to get into trouble when they do businesses overseas.”

He said the tightening of the registration procedure was not intended to hamper exports, but to improve monitoring of exporters.

In a bid to provide a favorable business climate to exporters, the customs office has conducted studies on how to avoid additional costs relating to the registration process. (naf)
