Gresik Customs, together with a number of related agencies, seized 6,776 illegal cigarettes. The action was carried out during a joint operation in Lamongan Regency on Wednesday (26/8/2026).

The operation involved the Lamongan Regency Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), Gresik Customs, the Lamongan District Attorney’s Office, the Communications and Informatics Office, and the Economic and Natural Resources Division of the Lamongan Regional Secretariat. Surveillance was conducted in four districts: Sukodadi, Kedungpring, Karanggeneng and Kalitengah.

Inspection results showed the largest haul of illegal cigarettes was in Kedungpring District, with 3,700 sticks. A further 2,652 sticks were found in Sukodadi District and 424 in Kalitengah District. Meanwhile, officers found no illegal cigarettes in Karanggeneng District.

Eko Rudi Hartono, Head of the Counselling and Information Services Section at Gresik Customs, said the seized goods were cigarettes with various excise violations. The violations included cigarettes without excise bands, those using fake excise bands, used excise bands, and bands not matching their intended purpose.

According to Eko, all the evidence has been secured by Gresik Customs for further processing in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations.

The enforcement action forms part of efforts by Customs and the regional government to suppress the circulation of illegal cigarettes while protecting state revenue. The surveillance also aims to create fair business competition for businesses that have fulfilled their excise obligations.
