JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) has responded to the inclusion of the name of its Director General, Djaka Budi Utama, in the indictment related to an alleged bribery case for import handling that implicates the leadership of Blueray Cargo Group, John Field.

The Deputy Head of Public Relations and Outreach of Customs, Budi Prasetyo, stated that his side respects the ongoing legal process and upholds the principle of presumption of innocence.

“Because this case has entered the trial stage, to respect and maintain the independence of that process, we will not comment on the substance of the case,” Budi said in his statement on Thursday (7/5/2026).

The indictment mentions that in July 2025, a meeting took place at the Borobudur Hotel attended by several customs officials and cargo businesspeople.

Djaka’s name is listed alongside other officials such as Rizal, Sisprian Subiaksono, and Orlando Hamonangan Sianipar.

Nevertheless, the KPK prosecutors do not elaborate on any allegations of receiving money or facilities by Djaka in the case.

The prosecutors allege that the defendants gave money amounting to Rp 61.3 billion in Singapore dollars, as well as entertainment facilities and luxury goods worth Rp 1.845 billion, to several customs officials from July 2025 to January 2026.

The giving is suspected to aim at smoothing the process of releasing imported goods belonging to Blueray Cargo Group.

The indictment also reveals allegations of conditioning the import surveillance system through the preparation of a “rule set targeting” based on internal Customs data.

In addition to cash, the defendants are said to have provided entertainment facilities worth Rp 1.45 billion, a Tag Heuer watch worth Rp 65 million, and a Mazda CX-5 vehicle worth Rp 330 million.

Based on the Ministry of Finance website, Djaka was born in Jakarta on 9 November 1967 and is a graduate of the Military Academy in 1990.

In his military career, he pursued education at the Army Staff and Command School in 2004 and the Indonesian National Armed Forces Staff and Command School in 2014.

Before becoming Director General of Customs and Excise, Djaka served as Deputy for Coordinating Domestic Political Affairs at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs in 2021, Assistant for Intelligence to the TNI Commander in 2023, Inspector General of the Ministry of Defence in 2024, and Chief Secretary of the State Intelligence Agency in the same year.

Djaka was officially inaugurated as Director General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance on 23 May 2025.
