The Director General of Customs and Excise, Djaka Budi Utama, stated that Customs will continue to perform its functions of export service and supervision despite the government’s formation of PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) as the single-gate exporter for several strategic commodities.

He explained that during the transition period lasting until 31 December 2026, the export process will continue as usual, and customs services will remain handled by Customs and Excise. “Until December, Customs will likely continue providing services as usual; DSI may facilitate its own processes, perhaps recording alongside Customs as it involves the owners of goods or exporters,” Djaka said during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday.

Once the single-gate export policy is fully implemented next year, DSI will manage export activities independently. Nevertheless, Customs and Excise will remain the primary agency at the forefront of export supervision. “In the future, DSI may operate independently for exports, but Customs will remain in the leading position regarding export processing,” he added.

During the same event, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa emphasised that the formation of DSI will not abolish the role of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise. “Will Customs be dissolved? No, it will not be dissolved,” said Purbaya.

The government established DSI as an instrument to implement the single-gate exporter policy for Indonesia’s strategic natural resource commodities. These commodities include coal, crude palm oil (CPO), and ferroalloys. During the transition period from 1 June to 31 December 2026, export activities will continue to be conducted by individual companies, though all exporters are required to report their export activities to DSI. From 1 January 2027, the single-gate export policy will be fully implemented, under which DSI will determine the selling prices and reasonable margin limits for the specified strategic commodities.
