Customs Has Seized 330 Kg of Smuggled Gold — What Will Happen to It?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — The Directorate General of Customs and Excise at the Ministry of Finance (DJBC Kemenkeu) has revealed the fate of gold bars and other forms of gold seized in connection with smuggling by several foreign nationals.

Director General of Customs and Excise Djaka Budhi Utama said the status of the seized gold is still awaiting the results of investigation and prosecution.

“Those goods (smuggled gold) and the pieces of evidence we have intercepted must first be investigated to gather sufficient evidence by the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim Polri) and relevant agencies,” Djaka said at a press conference on Tuesday (15/9/2026).

However, once the investigation is complete and has obtained final and binding legal force, the gold will be auctioned in accordance with prevailing regulations.

“Certainly, based on the investigation, once the investigation is complete and has permanent legal force, the mechanism will be carried out through an auction or other mechanisms in order to generate state revenue,” he explained.

Djaka also revealed that throughout 2026, from early January to 14 September 2026, the total seizure of gold from illegal export smuggling has reached 330 kilograms.

“The total gold we have obtained or successfully prevented from being taken out of the country is approximately 330 kilograms, from the beginning of the year to 14 September 2026,” Djaka said.
