The Directorate General of Customs and Excise (Bea Cukai) under the Ministry of Finance has thwarted the illegal import of used clothing valued at Rp53.08 billion across two separate locations. A total of 43 containers containing approximately 4,687 bales of used clothing were seized at Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta, while another 2,060 bales were confiscated in West Kalimantan. Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa and Director General of Customs and Excise Djaka Budhi Utama presented the seized goods during a press conference at the Buffer Area of the CDC Temporary Storage Facility at Tanjung Priok Port on Tuesday. The enforcement action highlights the government’s commitment to curbing the smuggling of second-hand garments, which is prohibited to safeguard the local textile and apparel industry.
