Customs Facilitates Excise Exemption for Sacramental Wine for the Archdiocese of Merauke

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MERAUKE - The Merauke Customs Office provided excise exemption services for ethyl alcohol-containing beverages (MMEA) in the form of sacramental wine to the Archdiocese of Merauke on Wednesday (8/4/2026). In this service, 1,000 litres of sacramental wine were facilitated to support church worship activities in the Merauke region.

The Head of the Merauke Customs Office, Isa Ramadhan, explained that sacramental wine is a special type of wine used in the celebration of sacraments in the church. Its presence holds significant and irreplaceable value in worship practices.

With this excise exemption facility, the needs for sacramental wine can be met more easily, allowing worship to proceed solemnly and smoothly.

The provision of this facility is an implementation of Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) No. 82 of 2024 on Excise Exemption Procedures. This regulation provides the basis for Customs to support religious activities through targeted fiscal policies, including excise exemptions for certain goods used for worship purposes.

Through this policy, Customs not only carries out its function as a supervisor and collector of state revenues but also plays a role in providing facilitation that directly impacts society. Support for religious activities is one tangible manifestation of the state’s presence in maintaining harmony and the continuity of worship practices in Indonesia.
