Customs DG Finally Speaks Out After Name Dragged into Blueray Cargo Bribery Case

The Director General of Customs and Excise, Djaka Budhi Utama, has finally broken his silence in response to his name being implicated in the Blueray Cargo importation bribery scandal. He emphasised that the public should simply follow the developments of the ongoing trial.

“Regarding the importation issues within Customs, let us all just follow the progress of the trial,” Djaka stated at the Ministry of Finance Headquarters in Jakarta on Friday (5/6/2026).

As previously reported, prosecutors from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revealed a meeting between the Director General of Customs, Djaka Budhi Utama, and the owner of Blueray Cargo, John Field. The meeting reportedly took place at the Hotel Borobudur in Central Jakarta.

Furthermore, prosecutors disclosed the existence of a ‘code envelope number 1’ intended for the Director General of Customs. It is alleged that this ‘code 1’ envelope was provided by the prosecutor to the former Director of Enforcement and Investigation at the Directorate General of Customs, Rizal.

President Prabowo Subianto had previously instructed Purbaya to take firm action if the leadership of Customs is unable to perform their duties effectively. He made these remarks during the 19th Plenary Session of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Wednesday (20/5/2026).

“I will remind you once again, for the umpteenth time, our customs must be improved. Minister of Finance, if the leadership of Customs is incapable, replace them immediately,” he stated.

“The nation and the people demand swift action; we must not be a government that is relaxed, idle, or procrastinating. We must be a government driven by ‘do it now,’ not ‘do it later,’” added Prabowo.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa affirmed that he would take steps to dismiss the Director General of Customs, Djaka Budhi Utama, if he is proven to have accepted bribes in the ongoing corruption case.

“It should be so; if proven (to have accepted bribes), then yes,” said Purbaya when met at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs on Thursday (21/5/2026).
