Director General of Customs and Excise Djaka Budhi Utama has finally spoken out in response to his name being dragged into the vortex of the Blueray Cargo import bribery case. He stressed that the public need only follow the trial proceedings in the case, as it remains ongoing. ‘Regarding the importation issues at Customs and Excise, we should just follow the trial developments together,’ Djaka stated at the Ministry of Finance Head Office in Jakarta on Friday (5/6/2026). As is known, the KPK public prosecutor revealed the existence of a meeting between the Director General of Customs and Excise Djaka Budi Utama and the owner of Blueray Cargo, John Field. The meeting was held at the Hotel Borobudur in Central Jakarta. The prosecutor also disclosed the existence of a code for envelope number 1, which was allegedly intended for the Director General of Customs and Excise. The prosecution suspects that envelope code 1 was given to the former Director of Enforcement and Investigation at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, Rizal. President Prabowo Subianto had previously requested that Purbaya take firm action if customs leadership was unable to perform its duties properly. This was conveyed during the 19th DPR RI Plenary Session on Wednesday (20/5/2026). ‘I remind you once again, for the umpteenth time, our customs and excise must be improved. Minister of Finance, if the customs leadership is incapable, replace them immediately,’ he said. ‘The nation and the people demand fast work; let us not be a relaxed government, a lackadaisical government, a whatever-will-be government. We must be a government driven by a sense of urgency,’ Prabowo stated. Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa confirmed he would take steps to dismiss the Director General of Customs and Excise, Djaka Budhi Utama, if he is proven to have accepted bribes in the corruption case currently entangling his name. ‘It should be yes, if proven (accepting bribes), yes,’ Purbaya said when met at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office on Thursday (21/5/2026).
