Customs Bribery Defendant Pleads for Leniency, Highlights Subordinate Role

Defendant in the alleged bribery case within the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, Andri, has asked the panel of judges to deliver the fairest possible verdict. In his defence statement, the Document Team Leader of PT Blueray Cargo admitted his wrongdoing and expressed remorse.

At the start of his plea, Andri stressed that he had been cooperative from the investigation and detention stages through to the trial. “I have shown a cooperative attitude during the investigation, detention, and throughout this trial, demonstrating my utmost respect for the duties of the Public Prosecutors,” Andri said during the hearing on 29 June 2026.

Andri conveyed that the prosecutors’ demand for a two-year-and-six-month prison sentence and a fine of Rp200 million felt heavy to him. Nevertheless, he asked the panel of judges to consider the degree of his culpability in reaching a verdict. “The charges against me, as have become facts in this trial, are true, but the incident was not something I planned, nor was it something I desired,” he stated.

In his plea, Andri openly admitted his mistake and apologised. “I admit my mistake. I regret committing this act. Therefore, I apologise for my mistake. The incident that befell me was never orchestrated or planned by me for my own benefit,” he said.

As a request to the panel of judges, Andri asked for several matters to be considered as mitigating circumstances. He noted that he had never been convicted of a crime before and that during his employment, he was merely carrying out orders from his superiors. “I, as an employee, was only obeying the orders of my superiors,” he stated. Furthermore, Andri said he is the backbone of his family. He has a wife and a child aged two years and seven months who still needs his attention and presence as a father. On these grounds, Andri hopes the panel of judges will deliver a verdict that considers his personal circumstances and imposes the fairest possible punishment.

Andri is the Document Team Leader of PT Blueray Cargo, who was indicted alongside the company owner, John Field, and Operations Manager, Deddy Kurniawan Sukolo, in the alleged bribery case involving several officials of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise. KPK prosecutors charged the three with giving money to several customs officials so that PT Blueray Cargo would receive facilities in the customs process. The total amount of money allegedly given reached approximately Rp91.7 billion, in addition to providing facilities such as luxury goods and vehicles. In this case, Andri was sentenced to two years and six months in prison and a fine of Rp200 million, subsidiary to 80 days of confinement.
