The defendant in the bribery case involving the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance, Sisprian Subiaksono, broke down in tears during his trial. He admitted to feeling profound regret for accepting bribe money.

Sisprian wept during the hearing held at the Jakarta Central Corruption Court on Friday (2/10/2026). The session began with Sisprian’s legal counsel asking about the impact of the case on his family.

“I would like to ask, Your Honour, regarding his family. As the head of the household, how has this impacted them?” Sisprian’s lawyer asked.

“With your permission, Your Honour, I deeply regret this incident. If I could return to that time, when I first sat in Intelligence, I would have abolished the operational funds that had no proper regulations. Furthermore, when Orlando reported the receipt of funds from Blueray, I ordered them to be returned,” Sispymian replied.

Sisprian went on to explain the consequences of the case, stating that both his wife and child have been severely affected.

“The heaviest impact of this event is on my family, especially my wife, Your Honour. My wife has a career in a foreign company, not just in Indonesia, but internationally, and they adhere to strict anti-corruption creeds. There was immense anger from my wife because being summoned by the KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) inevitably affected her,” he said.

“Ultimately, my wife did not know how we would afford food, and she had to sell her jewellery one by one. My child has also had to work as an online driver and a restaurant waiter; while this has made them more resilient, it is a source of great sadness as they should have been supported by their parents,” he continued.

Sisprian then reflected on his decades-long career at Customs, admitting that his professional reputation is now destroyed.

“Furthermore, my 33 years of service, during which I sought to uphold the name of Customs, are ruined. I destroyed it myself. I destroyed it myself,” he stated.

Sisprian wept while asking for forgiveness from the Customs institution and expressed regret over accepting the bribes. He stated that he is prepared to be found guilty by the judge.

“But this is what has happened. I apologise, I apologise to my institution. I surrender myself to the Judge to decide this case. I am ready to be found guilty. If I could go back in time, I would even refuse assignments at the head office, and I would refuse to accept that money,” he added.

For context, three officials from the Ministry of Finance’s Customs and Excise department are accused of receiving bribes and gratifications totalling Rp 78.8 billion. Prosecutors stated that the bribes and gratifications were received in both Rupiah and foreign currencies.

The indictment hearing was held at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Friday (3/7). The three Customs officials involved are Rizal, Director of Enforcement and Investigation; Sisprian Subiaksono, Head of the Intelligence Sub-directorate of Enforcement and Investigation; and Orlando Hamonangan, Head of Customs Intelligence Section I of the Directorate of Enforcement and Investigation.
