Jakarta — The Jakarta Regional Customs Office (Kanwil) inspected private yachts at Batavia Marina in Jakarta, with a total of 83 vessels under examination in the waters and docked facilities.

Hendri Darnadi, Head of the Jakarta Customs Regional Office, stated that the inspection was part of efforts to optimise state revenue collection from the circulation of luxury goods, combat the underground economy, and enforce fiscal equity for citizens.

“We are carrying out this activity as a mandatory duty as directed by the Minister of Finance and President Prabowo Subianto to optimise state revenue,” he said on Wednesday, 18 March 2026.

The inspection was also conducted to create fiscal equity for citizens. “Lower-income citizens, small and medium enterprises, and those who purchase motorcycles for work, such as online motorcycle taxi drivers, continue to pay customs duties and taxes and fulfil their obligations on purchased vehicles. It is unfair that those purchasing high-value goods and luxury goods do not pay according to their obligations,” he stated.

Regarding the yachts, the office will ensure that owners have met formal permit requirements and customs obligations. Among the vessels inspected, some were suspected of non-compliance with import and customs regulations, utilising temporary import arrangements or operating under foreign flags.

“We are currently investigating the findings further,” Darnadi added.

The Jakarta Customs Office remains committed to conducting customs and excise enforcement with relevant stakeholders, with such actions to be conducted on an ongoing basis.

The office will conduct inspections to verify that imported and exported goods comply with regulations. Beyond luxury goods, the Jakarta Customs Office will also focus on efforts to regulate the underground economy.

“In Jakarta’s territorial waters, the Jakarta Customs Office will thoroughly examine any underground economy activities in all forms. We will attempt to reduce and combat what is known as the underground economy. Hopefully this spirit can become an inspiration for other customs offices,” Darnadi said.
