In handling seized goods in the customs and excise sector, Customs ensures thorough and transparent law enforcement, including the destruction of dangerous, damaged, or unusable items. This was evident in the destruction of state-confiscated goods that had gained final legal force (inkracht van gewijsde) at the State Seized Goods Storage House (Rupbasan) in Semarang City on Tuesday (7/4/2026). The activity serves as proof that the law enforcement process does not stop at seizure but continues to the final stage in a transparent and accountable manner. Unlike routine destructions, this event represented close collaboration between Semarang Customs and the Semarang District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari). The aim was to ensure that goods resulting from crimes are destroyed and no longer pose a threat to society. The destruction followed court decisions on 100 cases, comprising 97 general criminal offences—mostly narcotics cases—and three special criminal offences. Evidence items with the potential to harm society were destroyed comprehensively. Among them, 75 cartons, 224 bales, and 5,520 packs of illegal cigarettes without excise stamps were burned until their function was completely eliminated. In addition to harming the state, the circulation of illegal cigarettes creates unhealthy business competition and potentially endangers consumers. A more serious threat comes from narcotics and psychotropics. In this activity, 859.20919 grams of methamphetamine (sabu), synthetic tobacco, and thousands of psychotropic drug tablets were destroyed using a blender machine. Not only that, hundreds of thousands of dangerous hard drugs were also destroyed, including 109,270 DMP pills, 64,260 pills with Y logo, 38,000 Yarindo pills, and tens of thousands of unmarked white tablets that are often misused. Other items potentially supporting criminal acts were also destroyed, such as 18 mobile phones and 10 sharp weapons that were cut using a grinding machine to prevent reuse. The Head of Semarang Customs Office, Muhammad Syuhadak, explained that this destruction is a form of Customs’ responsibility to the public. “Our presence embodies accountability to society that every illegal item successfully enforced is processed legally to the execution stage of destruction,” he stated on Wednesday (8/4/2026). He added that this step is important to provide a deterrent effect while protecting society from the circulation of dangerous goods. The execution, witnessed by the Head of Semarang District Prosecutor’s Office, Andhie Fajar Arianto, along with other agency officials, reaffirms the state’s presence in maintaining public security. With consistent and transparent destruction, society will be protected from potential dangers and gain certainty that the law is enforced comprehensively to create a safe and healthy environment in Central Java.
