Customs and BNN Uncover International Drug Network, Revealing its Methods

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Directorate General of Customs, in collaboration with the BNN, has successfully uncovered the methods used by an international drug network to smuggle narcotics.

The Acting Deputy for Eradication of the National Narcotics Agency, Roy Hardi Siahaan, explained that the uncovering of the international drug network began with information from the Directorate General of Customs, Jakarta. He stated that on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, a suspicious package originating from Luxembourg was suspected of containing narcotics.

“Our colleagues at Customs checked and suspected that there were four boxes on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, one of which was suspected of containing narcotics. To confirm, the Customs team used equipment to detect it, such as an X-ray, and it was found that this indicated narcotics,” he said at a press conference at the Customs office in Jakarta on Thursday (25/2/2026).

Director of Narcotics Interdiction, Syarif Hidayat, added that the drugs were packaged in a wedding dress.

“There was a suspicious package originating from abroad, which was declared as a wedding dress. After conducting risk analysis and profiling, as well as a thorough examination of the package sent through this courier service, we managed to find tablets hidden in the cardboard,” he said.

“From the tests, it was confirmed to be positive as a Class I narcotic, of the MDMA type,” continued Syarif.

Roy said that after the examination and confirmation of the narcotics, the Customs team contacted the BNN and immediately began tracing to find out who the recipient of the illegal goods was.

“Finally, we managed to arrest someone in his boarding house in Cikarang. But the investigation continues, and we found someone named AFZ,” he said.

Roy also revealed that AFZ is an associate of perpetrator A, who is known to be a Nigerian citizen residing in Malaysia.

“Regarding the movements of AFZ, he is under the control of A, the Nigerian citizen, who we have found to be in Malaysia.”

From the uncovering, 4,080 MDMA tablets were found, weighing 1.9 kilograms, with an estimated value of IDR 1.6 billion.
