Customs and Excise Revenue Falls 14.7 Per Cent, Only Rp 44.9 Trillion Collected in Early 2026
Jakarta — Indonesia’s state revenue from the customs and excise sector through February 2026 totalled Rp 44.9 trillion, marking a contraction of 14.7 per cent compared with the same period last year.
Deputy Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara stated that this realisation was lower than the February 2025 receipts, which reached Rp 52.6 trillion.
“Customs and excise revenue collected Rp 44.9 trillion. Compared with February 2025 last year which collected Rp 52.6 trillion, we are approximately Rp 7 trillion below compared with last year,” Suahasil said during a press conference on the State Budget in Jakarta on Wednesday (11 March 2026).
Suahasil explained that the decline in revenue stemmed primarily from the excise tax sector, which through February 2026 was recorded at Rp 34.4 trillion or down 13.3 per cent year-on-year.
Nevertheless, Suahasil noted that the government had begun observing increased production in early 2026, which is expected to improve excise receipts in the coming months.
“We are beginning to see an increase in production volume in early 2026. The excise stamps can be affixed over the next two months, so we expect excise revenue to improve over these next two months,” he said.
Additionally, export duty revenue also experienced a significant decline. Through February 2026, export duty receipts totalled Rp 2.8 trillion or down 48.8 per cent compared with last year.
This decline was influenced by the weakness in crude palm oil prices in early 2026.
On another front, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise has continued to intensify enforcement actions against illicit cigarettes and narcotics.
Suahasil noted that the frequency of illicit cigarette enforcement increased significantly. Throughout 2025, a total of 1,993 enforcement actions were recorded, whilst in early 2026 the number had already reached 2,872 cases.
“The volume of illicit cigarettes seized increased from 179 million sticks to 369 million sticks, or more than double, approximately 106.8 per cent,” Suahasil said.
Enforcement actions against narcotics also increased from 212 cases in 2025 to 234 cases in early 2026. However, the volume of evidence seized declined from 1.27 tonnes in 2025 to approximately 0.7 tonnes this year.
Suahasil emphasised that the Directorate General of Customs and Excise will continue to cooperate with law enforcement to eradicate the circulation of illicit cigarettes and narcotics in Indonesia.
