Customs and Excise Play Strategic Role in State Revenue

The customs and excise sector plays a strategic role in state revenue. The sector’s receipts recorded a positive turnaround as of April 2026, with total revenue reaching Rp100.6 trillion, contributing 29.9 percent to the state budget (APBN) and growing 0.6 percent year-on-year.

According to Customs and Excise data, import duty receipts were recorded at Rp16.4 trillion, growing 6.4 percent year-on-year, driven by an increase in duties from LPG commodities and project needs. Meanwhile, export duty receipts contracted by 17.5 percent year-on-year to Rp9.3 trillion. Despite the contraction, export duty receipts began to show improvement in line with the strengthening of crude palm oil (CPO) prices in March and April 2026. Excise revenue grew 2.2 percent year-on-year, amounting to Rp74.8 trillion, influenced by increased cigarette production in the first quarter.

Head of the Public Relations and Counselling Sub-directorate of Customs and Excise, Budi Prasetiyo, stated that this revenue and supervisory performance was inseparable from the role of stakeholders and the public. “We thank all parties, especially the public, for their support in bolstering the state budget performance. This positive revenue and supervisory performance reinforces Customs and Excise’s commitment to safeguarding revenue, protecting the public, and securing the national economy,” he said in an official release on Thursday (11/6).

He added that beyond its role as a revenue collector, Customs and Excise also successfully protected the national economy from illegal goods and smuggling. Up to April 2026, Customs and Excise had conducted 5,451 enforcement actions against illegal cigarettes, seizing 684 million sticks. Additionally, 522 enforcement actions against narcotics were carried out, resulting in the seizure of 3.31 tonnes of narcotics.
