Customs and Excise Foils Smuggling of 2.7 Million Illegal Cigarettes in West Kalimantan

The Regional Office of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise for West Kalimantan (Kanwil DJBC Kalbagbar) has foiled the smuggling of 2,740,000 illegal cigarettes. The millions of illegal cigarettes consist of various brands.

The case came to light following intelligence information received by the Customs team on Sunday (9/8/2026). The information indicated that illegal cigarettes were being shipped from Java to Kalimantan using expedition trucks transported by ship.

Officers then tracked two trucks from the time they left Dwikora Port at 18.15 WIB until they reached the unloading location.

Then, on Monday (10/8) morning at around 07.00 WIB, the Customs team carried out a raid at the warehouse location.

During the raid, officers found 20 boxes of illegal cigarettes that had been moved into a pickup truck, as well as 155 other boxes inside the truck. The total evidence seized amounted to 175 boxes.

The illegal cigarettes used excise stamps that did not comply with regulations, such as plain excise stamps and suspected counterfeit ones. The total value of the evidence is estimated at Rp 4,076,900,000, with potential state losses successfully prevented amounting to Rp 2,657,337,100.

All evidence is now secured at the Kanwil DJBC Kalbagbar. The evidence is undergoing further investigation into suspected excise violations.
