Customs and Excise Assures Enforcement Priorities Continue Under Finance Minister Suahasil
Director General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) Djaka Budhi Utama has affirmed that there will be no change in direction or enforcement priorities under the leadership of Suahasil Nazara as the new Finance Minister. Customs and Excise will continue carrying out its core duties of cracking down on illegal activities and safeguarding state revenues.
Djaka made the remarks at a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday (15/9/2026). He stressed that the new Finance Minister’s instructions align with the supervisory functions that have long been in place, particularly in border regions.
“As for the tasks from the new minister, nothing has changed. As the Minister made clear yesterday, Customs and Excise will continue with the core duties it has been carrying out all along,” Djaka said.
He explained that oversight of smuggling and other illegal activities remains the top priority, and that no special orders have altered the enforcement roadmap previously established.
Earlier, on Monday (14/9), Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara had voiced his commitment to strengthening enforcement against illegal goods. He noted that DJBC’s performance in cracking down on illegal activities showed an increasingly robust trend.
Suahasil emphasised that Customs and Excise’s attention extends beyond the circulation of illicit cigarettes to cover various other commodities that violate the law. These firm measures form part of the Finance Ministry’s efforts to maintain national economic stability.
“What is illegal is not just cigarettes, but many other things that we must address,” Suahasil said. He added that strengthening enforcement is crucial to ensure the state budget remains healthy as an instrument for safeguarding the economy.
With this affirmation, DJBC will continue to intensify supervision at vulnerable points to ensure all international trade activities comply with the regulations in force in Indonesia. (Ant/I-1)
