Customs and Bangka Belitung Police Foil Circulation of 16.4 kg of Methamphetamine and 4,980 Ecstasy Pills
The Regional Office of Customs for Eastern Sumatra, together with the Pangkalpinang Customs Office, has strengthened its synergy and coordination with the Bangka Belitung Islands Police to prevent and eradicate the circulation of narcotics in the Bangka Belitung Islands. This synergy was realised through the uncovering of a narcotics crime case on Wednesday (26/8/2026).
“This enforcement is part of inter-agency synergy and coordination in supporting efforts to prevent and eradicate the circulation of narcotics in the Bangka Belitung region. From the results of the disclosure, we secured evidence in the form of 16.465 kilograms of methamphetamine and 4,980 ecstasy pills. From this enforcement, approximately 87,305 lives have been saved from the potential misuse of narcotics,” said the Head of the Pangkalpinang Customs Office, Junanto Kurniawan, in a press conference held on Friday (28/8/2026).
Junanto said the case began with information regarding a suspected plan for narcotics to be distributed in the Bangka Island region. The information was then followed up through investigation and inter-agency coordination until a suspected perpetrator with the initials AS was secured on Wednesday (26/8/2026) in the Pangkalpinang City area.
“We are continuing to conduct investigations and development to uncover the network and other parties suspected of being involved in the circulation of these narcotics,” he said.
He also affirmed that the Eastern Sumatra Customs Regional Office, Pangkalpinang Customs, together with the Bangka Belitung Islands Police, are committed to continuously strengthening coordination, information exchange, and preventive and enforcement measures against the circulation of prohibited goods, particularly narcotics.
“We hope that our collaborative efforts can continue to be enhanced to narrow the space for narcotics distribution networks, while providing protection to the public from the threat of narcotics abuse, particularly in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province,” said Junanto.
