Curriculum is weak, minister admits

SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: Minister of National Education
Abdul Malik Fadjar admitted on Tuesday that the curriculum had
major weaknesses.

The basic weakness was that the curriculum lagged behind the
rapid developments in science and technology, Malik Fadjar said.

"In fact 75 percent of the efforts to improve university
curriculum should be aimed at making it relevant to science and
technology," he said after swearing in Rachmad Hernadi as the
Mulawarman University rector.

Malik Fadjar said that high on its agenda of developing
national education was improvements in the curriculum which also
gave more emphasis on humanity.

He said that science and technology had been largely dealt
with outside the curriculum, such as seminars. --Antara
