Waves of homeward-bound travellers have begun crowding the departure area of Pasar Senen Station in central Jakarta on Saturday (14 March), seven days before Eid al-Fitr 1447 AH. Passengers have chosen to depart earlier to avoid the peak congestion expected to intensify as the religious holiday approaches.

According to reports, the station atmosphere has grown increasingly busy. Long queues are visible at platform entry gates, whilst waiting areas are filled with families carrying various luggage.

One traveller from Blitar, Putri (25), deliberately left early from West Jakarta for comfort. “If we depart closer to the holiday, it will definitely be more crowded than today. Today is already busy, let alone later,” she said.

A similar situation was experienced by Noer (73), an elderly passenger from Ciputat, South Tangerang. Together with his family, he departed today for Yogyakarta after successfully securing departure tickets. “Because we got the tickets today. Hopefully we will have a smooth journey with no disruptions,” he hoped.

Not only outbound traffic, Pasar Senen Station also serves arriving passengers from various regions, such as Risalda (20). This Jakarta student had just completed her journey from Solo as her semester break began. “I chose today’s schedule because my campus break happened to start yesterday,” she explained.

Based on data from PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 1 Jakarta until 11:42 WIB, a total of 49,895 passengers were recorded departing Jakarta on Saturday. This figure includes departures from several stations in the Daop 1 region. Meanwhile, the number of passengers arriving in Jakarta on the same day was recorded at 30,841 people.

In the field, officers continue to stand by to manage passenger flow and provide departure information periodically to ensure order in the platform area.
