A fire broke out in the Gandamekar area of West Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java, with thick smoke rising from the scene. Detikcom’s observation at Jalan H Mad Boich Idris in Gandamekar on Sunday (31/5/2026) at 8:56 PM WIB showed the fire was in a densely populated residential area, with several houses already reduced to ashes. Several roofs had collapsed, and the acrid smell of burning filled the air. House walls were blackened by the heat, and the area around the scene was pitch black. Some residents attempted to re-enter the darkened homes to check their condition, while firefighters moved about with firefighting equipment. Fire trucks arrived in succession, and onlookers gathered at the scene, occasionally documenting the incident. ‘Turn around, turn around,’ a man shouted to motorcyclists attempting to pass through the fire zone. Earlier social media videos showed flames spreading through the residential area, with thick black smoke billowing high. ‘Yes, still extinguishing,’ said Said, a Bekasi Regency Fire Department call centre officer, on Sunday (31/5/2025). According to Said, the warehouse was near residential buildings, and firefighters were still working to put out the flames. ‘Near the residential area,’ he added. ‘Six units deployed,’ he said. The cause of the fire and any casualties remain unknown as of now.
