Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, is undergoing medical treatment following an acid attack by an unknown perpetrator. Metro Jaya Police (Polda Metro Jaya) have provided an update on his condition.

“The victim remains under medical care and is not yet able to receive visitors,” said Brigadier General Budi Hermanto, Head of Public Relations at Metro Jaya Police, to journalists on Monday, 16 March 2026.

Police stated they will gather testimony about the acid attack incident once Andrie Yunus’s condition improves. Investigators will also seek information from several other individuals.

“Of course, whilst also gathering information from people around the victim and the crime scene,” said Budi.

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo previously affirmed the police’s commitment to resolving the case of the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. General Sigit stated he had received a direct order from President Prabowo Subianto to investigate the matter.

“Regarding the development of the attack on the activist, I have received a direct order from Mr President to conduct a thorough and professional investigation with transparency,” General Sigit told journalists after inspecting the mudik (homecoming) traffic flow at Surabaya Gubeng Main Station in East Java on Sunday, 15 March.

General Sigit explained that the police would employ scientific methods in investigating the case. Information gathering by field teams is ongoing.

“The steps we are taking will certainly prioritise Scientific Crime Investigation. Currently, we are gathering information, and that information will subsequently be examined point by point,” he stated.

General Sigit added that the police force is already in motion under the coordination of the National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri) and Metro Jaya Police. Developments in the case will be conveyed regularly to the public.
