KontraS deputy coordinator Andrie Yunus continues treatment following an acid dousing. The National Hospital Dr Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM) revealed his current condition.

RSCM reported that Andrie’s condition is now stable and not life-threatening.

“Currently, the patient’s general condition is stable and not life-threatening,” RSCM stated on Tuesday (17 March 2026), according to detikNews.

Possible Tissue Reconstruction

RSCM also ensured that medical treatment would continue in staged phases. This includes the possibility of tissue reconstruction procedures to help optimise vision function recovery.

“Medical treatment will continue in staged phases in accordance with the patient’s condition development, including the possibility of tissue reconstruction and further procedures to help optimise vision function recovery,” the RSCM statement continued.

“RSCM is committed to providing comprehensive and professional medical services for every patient requiring treatment of similar complex trauma cases,” it added.

RSCM disclosed that treatment of Andrie commenced on Friday (13 March) in the early morning around midnight. At that time, Andrie reported burn injuries to his face, neck, chest, back, and both arms, accompanied by vision disturbance in his right eye.

From initial examination results, RSCM found exposure to acidic chemical substance in the wound area.

“Upon arrival at the emergency room, the medical team immediately conducted initial examination and stabilisation measures. Examination using pH indicators showed exposure to acidic chemical substance in the wound area,” RSCM stated.

Twenty Per Cent Burns

RSCM reported that Andrie sustained approximately 20 per cent burns. Additionally, grade three acute chemical trauma was found on his right eye, causing significant vision impairment.

“Further examination results showed that the patient sustained approximately 20 per cent burns to body areas and grade three acute chemical trauma to the right eye,” RSCM stated.

“This condition caused sharp vision reduction and corneal surface damage,” it added.

For treatment, RSCM conducted damaged tissue cleaning on the right eye and amniotic membrane transplantation. This was to protect the ocular surface and support the healing process.

“To manage this condition, the patient underwent damaged tissue cleaning on the right eye and amniotic membrane transplantation to protect the ocular surface and support the healing process,” RSCM stated.

Admitted to High Care Unit

Andrie is currently admitted to the High Care Unit (HCU) to receive intensive care by the medical team. Therapy includes wound care, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications, vitamins, and medication.

“Subsequently, the patient is admitted to the burn wound HCU to receive further monitoring and comprehensive care by a multidisciplinary medical team consisting of ophthalmology specialists, reconstructive plastic surgeons, and emergency medical team,” RSCM stated.

“Therapy provided includes wound care, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications, vitamins, and treatment to maintain controlled intraocular pressure,” it added.
