Current Condition of Andrie Yunus
The head of the Monitoring of Impunity Division at the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence, Jane Rosalina, stated that doctors at Dr Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital (RSCM) in Jakarta have treated the inflammatory reaction caused by acid to the eyes of Andrie Yunus, Vice Coordinator of Kontras. Andrie remains hospitalised following the operation.
“This was anticipated and addressed by the hospital,” Jane said at the YLBHI office in Jakarta on Monday, 16 March 2026.
Jane stated that RSCM will conduct further medical procedures on Andrie to address skin and other body parts affected by acid exposure. “However, that will be confirmed by the hospital,” she said.
Andrie’s current condition is stable. He is receiving intensive care in the High Care Unit (HCU). Jane could not confirm the duration of his treatment.
Jane drew a comparison with similar treatment previously undergone by Novel Baswedan. Treating Novel’s eyes and skin required months of care. She called on the public to pray for Andrie’s swift recovery and return to his activities.
On Saturday, 14 March 2026, Jane stated that Andrie Yunus sustained approximately 24 per cent burns after being doused with acid by an unknown person. Andrie underwent eye surgery at RSCM.
Andrie was attacked by two unknown individuals on Thursday evening, 12 March 2026, at approximately 23:37 Western Indonesia Time on Jalan Salemba I Talang, Central Jakarta. He was returning home after recording a podcast at the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) office on the topic of “Remilitarisation and Judicial Review of the Military Law”.
The assailants reportedly rode a motorscooter and doused the victim with acid before fleeing.
Previously, the Coordinating Minister of Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Correctional Affairs, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, suggested that the attack on Andrie followed an organised pattern.
According to Yusril, the attack pattern indicates possible planning, meaning the investigation must extend beyond the field operatives.
“The attack pattern appears planned and organised, so the investigation of this incident must not stop at the executor level, but must also reveal the intellectual actors behind it,” Yusril said in a written statement on Friday, 13 March 2026.
He requested law enforcement, particularly the National Police, to thoroughly investigate the case to identify those behind the attack.
“I request law enforcement, particularly the National Police, to ensure thorough investigation up to the intellectual actors, not merely the field perpetrators,” he said.
Yusril stated he had coordinated with investigators at the Metro Jaya Regional Police and the National Police Criminal Investigation Directorate, who continue to investigate the case. To date, authorities have not publicly announced investigative developments.
