The Head of the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Health Office, Lalu Hamzi Fikri, has revealed the current condition of hundreds of students who suffered food poisoning after eating the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) menu in Central Lombok. Fikri stated that out of the total 352 poisoned students, only one person remains under intensive care.

“The condition of all discharged cases is improving as they have received proper medical services. Most cases were mild,” Fikri said in Mataram on Monday (14/09/2026).

Fikri noted that the hundreds of students were initially treated at four local community health centres (Puskesmas). Meanwhile, the one student still under intensive care is currently at the Mantang Health Centre. According to Fikri, the student is suffering from severe dehydration and requires intravenous fluids.

“One person is still being treated at the Mantang Health Centre and is on an IV drip because they are experiencing diarrhoea and weakness,” he explained.

Fikri disclosed that the MBG menu that caused the mass poisoning included kebab wraps, tempeh sticks, lettuce, and sautéed chicken. Symptoms experienced by the students included nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, weakness, shortness of breath, and diarrhoea.

The victims are spread across five educational institutions in the Batukliang and Pringgarata regions, specifically SD Negeri 2 Lendang Tampel, SD Negeri Beber, SD Negeri Rapo Puyung, SD Negeri Mertak Kesambi, and one MTs (Islamic Junior High School) in Batukliang.

Fikri stated that the Mataram Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BBPOM) together with the NTB Health Office have visited the food provider to test samples of the food that poisoned the students. He noted that laboratory testing of the food samples aims to confirm the exact cause of the mass poisoning.

“The testing process is currently ongoing,” he said.

Previously, the school committee and parents of students at SDN Beber, Batukliang District, Central Lombok, agreed to permanently reject the provision of the MBG menu. This decision was reached following the suspected poisoning of 352 students last Friday (11/09).
