Curious About the Total Area of All Green Open Spaces in DKI?

The area of green open spaces (RTH) in Jakarta as of April 2026 is recorded at approximately 3,703.56 hectares. This figure equates to 5.59% of the total area of DKI Jakarta. This extent actually indicates that the availability of green spaces in Jakarta is still far from the ideal target of 30% as mandated by laws and regulations. Based on the latest data released by the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, the total green open spaces in Jakarta are spread across more than 2,232 locations. These areas include neighbourhood parks, urban forests, green corridors, and mangrove zones distributed throughout various administrative regions. In detail, Jakarta currently has more than 1,335 neighbourhood parks, 112 urban forests, 18 sports fields categorised as green open spaces, and four mangrove zones. Nevertheless, the RTH area of just 5.59% still shows a significant gap compared to the target set by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government of 30%. As a comparison, this target is the minimum standard to maintain ecological balance in urban areas, especially in a dense city like Jakarta. To catch up on this lag, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government continues to implement various strategic measures. For example, throughout 2025, the government targeted the construction of 21 new green open spaces and the refurbishment of 73 other locations. This programme includes the revitalisation of city parks, the development of green corridors, and the arrangement of existing open areas to make them more optimally utilised by the public. In addition to increasing the area, the government is also focusing on improving the quality of facilities so that green spaces are not merely vegetation areas but also comfortable and functional public spaces.
