Curious About the Number of Parks in DKI?
KOMPAS.com - Jakarta continues to strive to add green spaces amid the density of development and high urban activity. However, the amount of open green space (RTH) in the Capital City remains far from the ideal target mandated by law. Based on data as of April 2026, the area of RTH in DKI Jakarta is recorded at 3,703.56 hectares, or equivalent to 5.59% of the total area. This figure indeed indicates the presence of thousands of green space points scattered throughout the city, from neighbourhood parks to city forests. Nevertheless, this achievement still does not approach the 30% target as stipulated in Law No. 26 of 2007 on Spatial Planning. If detailed by type, Jakarta currently has a total of more than 1,500 parks with diverse categories. In addition, there are 130 interactive parks designed to support community social activities with more varied facilities. For a larger scale, Jakarta has 82 city parks spread across several administrative areas. City parks function as the lungs of the region as well as public recreation spaces. Meanwhile, there are also 7 recreational parks that serve as entertainment and tourism destinations for residents. The parks at the smaller administrative level consist of 4 village parks, 2 district parks, and 2 neighbourhood parks. Outside the park category, Jakarta’s RTH also includes cemetery areas, river and road embankment parks, as well as city forests that play an important role in maintaining ecological balance.
