KOMPAS.com - In addition to parks and urban forests, cemetery areas are one of the important components of open green spaces (RTH) in DKI Jakarta. Few people realise that cemetery areas have significant ecological functions, from maintaining water infiltration to serving as part of the green space that supports urban environmental quality. Based on data up to April 2026 from the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, the total RTH area in Jakarta reaches 3,703.56 hectares, equivalent to 5.59% of the capital’s total area. Although spread across more than 1,000 locations, this figure is still far below the ideal target of 30% as mandated by Law No. 26 of 2007 on Spatial Planning. Records show that Jakarta has 110 cemetery areas spread across various regions. The existence of these cemetery areas not only functions as a final resting place but also falls under the RTH category that contributes to the city’s environmental balance. In the classification of open green spaces, cemeteries are one type of RTH along with neighbourhood parks, river and road embankment parks, and urban forests. Overall, the composition of RTH in Jakarta is quite diverse. Neighbourhood parks are the most numerous with 1,335 locations, followed by 130 interactive parks and 82 city parks. In addition, there are 7 recreational parks, 4 sub-district parks, 2 district parks, and 2 neighbourhood unit parks spread across various areas.
