Curb the traffic

Traffic congestion on Jakarta's streets is a common sight. Even the toll roads are not spared. Often we get stranded for hours and feel miserable till we maneuver to get out of it and give a temporary sigh of relief till we get stuck again.

It is indeed a herculean task to plan one's appointments, as you may arrive either too early or too late at a venue, depending upon the mercy of the traffic.

And, while there is still no alternate mode of commuting, the number of vehicles is increasing unabatedly, causing further congestion. In the past, authorities imposed a few restrictions, such as a three-in-one zone, etc., to restrict traffic. However, new and innovative ideas have to be thought of and implemented, to combat the perpetual problem of congestion on the streets.

I would like to suggest the authorities as follows: All commercial vehicles, for the transportation of goods and services be allowed to operate during restricted hours, which do not clash with office rush hours. Commercial vehicles may be allowed to operate during the following hours on work days: From 10 a.m. to 3.p.m., and then from 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.

The scheme's modalities can be further worked out provided the concept is acceptable.
