Culture of resignation

In keeping with progress and globalization, ethical behavior as well as the quality of human resources needs to be improved. Professionalism needs to be complemented with good ethics, openness, creativity and integrity. National interest should be placed above personal, family and clan interest or unethical practices for gain.
It is hoped that leaders at all levels direct their subordinates to work as well as possible for the nation, the majority of which is now suffering. This is marked by the famine in Irian Jaya and the people going abroad to work legally and illegally. These people are compelled to leave their home and country just to subsist. We certainly feel concerned about their fate.
When I was in Malaysia, I met a fellow participant at a seminar. He lives in the United Arab Emirates. He proudly told me that his family employed two servants from Indonesia. I felt sad and ashamed.
I hope that our leaders and decisionmakers will introspect and if they find they have failed, are incapable, that they resign from their post and pave the way for others for the sake of national interest.
Let us imitate the good culture in other countries, for example Japan. Recently, Japan's minister of the central bank resigned from his post.
