Culture Ministry assessing damage at Sade traditional village, NTB

Culture Minister Fadli Zon has said that his ministry is currently carrying out an assessment of damage to property and cultural objects at the Sade traditional village in Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara.

“We are still collecting data at the moment. The damage. What kind of damage there is,” Fadli said when met in Jakarta on Monday.

He explained that he has coordinated with State Secretariat Minister Prasetyo Hadi regarding repairs to the traditional houses.

He said there will be collaboration and a division of roles with other ministries and agencies to accelerate the recovery of the traditional village, which suffered massive damage from a fire that occurred on 22 August 2026.

Asked about targets and directives from President Prabowo Subianto, he admitted there were no specific instructions, but said the head of state has asked his staff to speed up the recovery of the disaster-affected area as quickly as possible.

The government, he said, will also prepare proper governance arrangements to mitigate disasters in the traditional village area.

The fire that struck Sade Traditional Village on 22 August 2026 was recorded as having damaged 75 traditional house buildings, 69 art shops, eight rice barns, one watchtower, four Berugak Sekenam, six Berugak Sakepat, one Bale Beleq, and several public facilities.

Sade Traditional Village is one of the oldest traditional villages on Lombok Island. The village has stood since the 16th century and has been passed down through 15 generations.
