Culture Minister Promotes Cultural Diplomacy through Indonesia-China Cultural Year 2027

Indonesian Culture Minister Fadli Zon inspected the Song Art Museum as part of his working visit to China yesterday. The Song Art Museum is one of the candidate venues for hosting the Indonesia-China Cultural Year 2027.

The cultural festival is planned to be organised by the Indonesian Ministry of Culture and the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing to commemorate 77 years of Indonesia-China diplomatic relations. The organisation of this festival also reflects the close bilateral relations and the commitment of both countries to strengthening strategic cooperation in various fields, including culture.

Culture Minister Fadli Zon assessed that amid these increasingly close relations, culture plays an important role in strengthening people-to-people relations. He hopes that the Indonesia-China Cultural Year 2027 can serve as a space for dialogue, appreciation, and collaboration between artists, curators, museums, cultural industry players, and creative communities from both countries.

“The Song Art Museum, located in Shunyi District, also has public spaces and areas for developing art derivative products, making it relevant for presenting broader cultural experiences connected to the creative ecosystem,” Fadli stated in his remarks on Monday (27/4/2026).

The Indonesia-China Cultural Year 2027 will showcase a blend of Indonesia’s rich traditions and contemporary expressions, from cultural heritage and fine arts to textiles. The activities will also display works that portray Indonesia as a mega-diverse nation rooted in a long civilisation, while being open to the future.

Fadli hopes that this event can strengthen Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy in China, while increasing appreciation among Beijing’s society for Indonesian culture. The event is also expected to open up closer collaboration spaces between artists, curators, museums, creative communities, and cultural institutions from both countries.
