Culture Minister prepares Nasirun exhibition at National Gallery
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon stated that the Ministry of Culture is preparing a special exhibition to display the works of the late Indonesian art maestro Nasirun at the National Gallery of Indonesia.
The exhibition is being prepared as a form of appreciation for the late artist’s significant contribution to the development of fine art in Indonesia and is planned to be held to commemorate 40 days since the maestro’s passing on 1 August 2026.
“We hope that all the goodness and contributions Nasirun made during his lifetime become a continuous charity and that the deceased is granted the best place in the sight of Allah SWT,” said Fadli, who also prayed that the bereaved family be granted patience and fortitude in facing the loss, in a Ministry of Culture press release in Jakarta on Saturday (29/8).
In addition to providing a space for art lovers to once again admire Nasirun’s monumental works, the exhibition is also designed to be one of the final exhibitions at the National Gallery of Indonesia before it enters a renovation phase.
The plan was conveyed directly by the Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, while attending a condolence gathering held by the late artist’s family in Yogyakarta on Thursday (20/8).
On that occasion, Fadli Zon expressed his deepest condolences to the family. He remembered Nasirun’s passing on 1 August 2026 as a tremendous loss for the art world and for all Indonesian society.
“He was an Indonesian art maestro whom I have known for more than a decade. We are certainly deeply saddened by the loss of such an extraordinary figure. We have expressed our deepest condolences since receiving the news of his passing,” said Fadli Zon.
The Culture Minister also remembered Nasirun as a warm, witty and very open person to everyone. That character made Nasirun’s home and private gallery in Yogyakarta always lively as a public space where artists and the community gathered to converse and enjoy the creative process.
Nasirun’s openness and warmth were considered to be strongly reflected in his works, which are rich in elements of tradition, wayang characters and profound spiritual values.
Representing the family, Nasirun’s wife, Supartilah, expressed her utmost appreciation and gratitude for the attention and full support provided by the government.
The family hopes that the dedication and artistic spirit left behind by the deceased can continue to inspire Indonesia’s younger generation to love the nation’s culture.
